Student Name: Samantha Turner Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: This piece demonstrates how depression and anxiety impact men. Men are often told to “man up“ and to deal with their problems in private. My work is meant to show the silent struggle with mental illness that many men fight.
Is it worth it?

Student Name: Allison Ferreira Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: Receiving a plastic trophy in the dance world is almost like receiving an A + in math class. For dancers, a trophy or medal gives them the same validation that a 100 on a math test gives a student. Is all the mental and physical exhaustion worth the plastic trophy? This is a question that is forever going on in a dancer’s mind.
Bubble Tea

Organization or School Affiliation: Norwood High School
Student Name: Janiah Harnett Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: The inspiration for my teapot is more of a Japanese tea set. I wanted to have that shape and style for the teapot. I decided on bubble glazing because I thought it would be a really cool pattern that's different. I'm am really proud of the shape, and how the spout looks. I am also really proud of the bubble glazing. I enjoyed the process of it and I like how clear the bubbles came out.
Mask Break

Organization or School Affiliation: Billerica Memorial High School
Student Name: Marianna Cenci Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: I was inspired by our mask breaks to create a piece that showed a true mask break. Every person now has to wear a face mask in school, but I believe we all wore masks much before that. Everyone, everyday wears a mask, covering their true emotions. We hide ourselves from the public to put out a perfect image. An image of us being happy and put together, when on the inside we are crumbling.
Dam Ayisyen

Organization or School Affiliation: Waltham High School
Student Name: Adelpha Bathol Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: I wanted to represent my ethnicity and my take on the positive energy of Black Joy using Prismacolor colored pencils. I built up the colors for the skin so it could look natural yet colorful at the same time. I wanted this piece to show a positive and expressive feeling through the colors on her skin and hair even if it isn’t through her expression. I’m proud of how expressive it is.
Mochi
Kathleen Flynn
Organization or School Affiliation: Waltham High School
Student Name: Taylor Polk Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: "Mochi" is a painting of my cat laying on a cloud in outer space. I wanted to experiment with arbitrary colors to express her beautiful markings. I also wanted to play with perspective by emphasizing her foreshortened back paws. I painted this with acrylics and used a pallet knife to add texture to create the illusion of fur. I like how Mochi’s side-eye captures her mischievous nature.
Inferno
Kathleen Flynn
Organization or School Affiliation: Waltham High School
Student Name: Amy Hong Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: This painting served as a way for me to commit to a large project during my final year of high school. I used arbitrary colors to paint the cow because cows are often represented as submissive creatures and I wanted to subvert that idea. My depiction of the cow is a representation of my introverted personality and the fiery color palette shows the strong passions and beliefs that I hold.
Mindspace

Organization or School Affiliation: Fairhaven High School
Student Name: Jazlyn Gonsalves Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: The mentality of a headspace can be blissful, but dangerous. Perhaps the mindspace itself is harmful being stuck in an endless loop of negativity. Or, being stuck in imagination blinds a person from experiencing enough pain for personal growth. Head in the clouds can quickly turn into a head in smoke fumes from suffocating. Being inside the headspace requires immense control and balance.
Streamline

Organization or School Affiliation: Andover High School
Student Name: Sana Godhani Grade: Grade 9 Artist Statement: My self portrait was created using a linoleum block, tissue paper and drawing paper. I cut out different sizes and shapes of triangles. All of these triangles were different shades of green. I used triangles with different shades of green to help me create a broken glass effect. This broken glass shows a shattering of the glass ceiling for women everywhere.
Eyes on You
Tamera/William Burns
Organization or School Affiliation: Manchester Essex Reg SD
Student Name: Alexis Hano Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: Now more than ever I have become aware of how much people live to meet the expectations of others. Self esteem is often based on what others think, and how they perceive you. Circles cover the background of this painting, forming eye-ball-like concentrations of lines- giving the viewer an anxiety of eyes on you. This piece portrays a literal meaning of seeing oneself through other people's eyes.
Family gathering
Tamera/William Burns
Organization or School Affiliation: Manchester Essex Reg SD
Student Name: Luca Capotosto Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement:
This work plays with the idea of familial traditions and how they change over time. In the dining room of my great Uncle and Aunt's house is a painting done by John Gable, a painter from Maine, depicting a holiday dinner in 1984. This piece pays homage to Gable's style while depicting a new holiday dinner, with some many faces, familiar or new.
The String of Pain
Erica Frisk
Organization or School Affiliation: Andover High School
Student Name: Ava Vassilopoulos Grade: Grade 11 Artist Statement: This project was an idea that I have had for a while as it was the interpretation of pain while I was experiencing some heavy medical issues. As the title suggests, the thread I used is meant to represent pain, and in the way it affects the body and mind as shown in these self portraits. Each image in this diptych was shot using film, printed in the darkroom and then sewed into with thread.
Human Nature
Erica Frisk
Organization or School Affiliation: Andover High School
Student Name: Emily Schofield Grade: Grade 10 Artist Statement: For this project, I explored the concept of how nature is sewn into the fabric of our everyday lives. Humans interact with nature and vise-versa everyday, sometimes without even knowing and our lives wouldn't be the same without the environment interactions. The embroidery element emphasizes the nature elements as well as creates them, showing the texture and color we see in the natural world.

My all time favorite, The Rose Room in Webster, MA. & both Dead Horse Hill and NU Kitchen in Worcester, MA.
Threads

Student Name: Eda Lindstrom Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement:
My pastel piece represents my family, each of us on our thread wrapped with memories. Each highlight represents the happy memories and the dark shading represents the sad memories we have. This December my family experienced the grief of losing my mom to cancer, this event helped our threads become tangled together. When the threads are sewn together they become strong.

Student Name: Jennifer Brzostek Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: Green Tea Pot
I made my teapot on the wheel and then added texture, a handle and spout through hand building. I also threw the cover on the wheel. I love the complimentary color glazes I placed on the inside and the outside.
Broken Hope
Stephanie Lashua
Organization or School Affiliation: Shepherd Hill Regional High School
Student Name: Collin Moody Grade: Grade 9 Artist Statement: My photograph is titled “Broken Hope”. My photograph communicates the feeling of brokenness and loneliness, while at the same time it communicates a sense of hope. The puppy’s eyes looking into the sky represents the longing of hope and the broken shoe the puppy is holding, represents the emotion of feeling broken and somewhat lost.

Student Name: Heiman Leung Grade: Grade 12 Artist Statement: I want to bring the dreams and fictions to real life. This artwork explores buildings. Through portraying the shape, space, and value of my imagination, I want to create unique features of architecture. That way I could deliver the novelty of living in the dream to myself and to my audience.
